We first passed by Forneria Siciliana one evening and it was completely full, which already said a lot. The next morning we came back for breakfast and were served by the owner, who was very friendly and helpful. The food was fantastic, the coffee excellent, and the atmosphere cozy and charming. Highly recommended — we’ll definitely be back for dinner.

During our visit to Siracusa, we wandered through the warm, narrow streets until we arrived at the Focacceria Siciliana—a lively little spot filled with the unmistakable aromas of grilled meat, fresh bread, and strong Sicilian coffee. The place buzzed with locals on their lunch break, chatting quickly in Sicilian dialect, and the clatter of plates and espresso cups made it feel wonderfully authentic. We decided to try something truly traditional: a panino with horse meat. In Sicily, especially in Catania and Siracusa, horse meat is prepared with care and pride, and this sandwich was no exception. The meat was tender, seasoned simply but perfectly, served in a soft yet slightly crisp bun that absorbed all the juices. It was hearty, flavorful, and unlike anything we had tasted before. Alongside it, we ordered an espresso—short, intense, and beautifully balanced, the kind of coffee that wakes every sense. To refresh ourselves from the midday heat, we added a lemonade, bright and tangy, made with the famously aromatic Sicilian lemons. Finally, we tried a panino caprese, filled with creamy mozzarella, ripe tomatoes, and a drizzle of olive oil that tasted like liquid sunshine. It offered a cool, fresh contrast to the richness of the horse meat panino. Sitting there, enjoying this simple but unforgettable meal, we felt immersed in everyday Sicilian life. The food was honest, local, and full of character—a perfect snapshot of Siracusa’s culinary soul.

We just stopped by to grab a quick snack. Not only were the arancini tasty, but I'd say some of the best I've had in Sicily.

Best arancina in our Sicily trip! We got the pistachio, sword fish, Nero de sepia and they were very good, crispy on the outside and hot in the inside! Good quick street food in Siracusa. Service was good and attentive .
